During National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, the American Dental Association hosts Give Kids a Smile Day, a day for the dental community to come together to provide free care for uninsured children. At Kids Smiles, we participate in the annual event, but have also expanded our efforts. Building on the GKAS campaign, the Kids Smiles’ Grin & Share It program eliminates the financial barriers parents face when seeking oral health care for their children throughout the entire year.
Each month, Kids Smiles’ clinics reserve appointment times for uninsured patients to receive free routine preventive and more advanced restorative care. The program also helps uninsured families determine if they qualify for insurance coverage and connects them to local agencies, which guide them through the enrollment process. This extra step helps to ensure continued access to dental care for families. Thanks to support from our generous donors, Kids Smiles provides more than $300,000 worth of free care each year.
Malia (left) and Chelsea (right) received care on Give Kids a Smile Day and have been patients at Kids Smiles since 2014 and 2016, respectively. It is children like Malia and Chelsea, a Kids Smiles patient family, who remind us to always “Grin & Share It”. In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, we encourage you to do so as well. When you make a gift to Kids Smiles or share the Kids Smiles story with a friend, you help us “Grin & Share It” throughout the year.
